Confused about my CR-1 stamp
Hi Rabea Kruegel
I just entered into USA. I was given CR-1 stamp rather than IR-1 even though it’s been more than 2 years since my marriage. I told the officer that it’s been 2 years, but he said they don’t handle that and I would get a call from someone or something along those lines. Could you tell me what I should do if I receive a 2 year green card rather than 10 year.

My husband actually received the 2 year one instead of the 10 year one yearss ago. But looks like they have started correcting themeselves. But even if you get a 2 year one you can apply for a new one saying they made a mistake and they’ll waive the fee. We never even realized that he was supposed to get a 10 year one until we applied to remove conditions after the 2 years were up and sent the whole package for renewal and we got a reply back with our check saying it was their mistake and we were supposed to have received a 10 year one.

I faced the same issue when I entered, she officer stamped my passport with CR1 and when I tried to correct her to stamp it as IR1 she was like go back, apply for immigration again and then get the IR1 visa 🤦🏾♂️ lol I entered by saying sorry lol. You can't argue with a person who doesn't have no information about the law. And yes, I got the 10 year greencard regardless

Was about to face same the thing and the officer even told me why you didnt apply again for this category, but i printed the part which says it should be corrected whilst getting endorsed by the CBP officers and showed it to him. He immediately opened my case back and corrected it on the system. The officer was a bit rude but when they see you know your rights they always back up. Anyways, as Rabea Kruegel just told you most likely you will be granted the 10 yrs one. If you didn't get the 10 yrs apply for the i90 and it should be corrected.

Some of these officers just don’t know. Don’t worry USCIS will most likely correct it. Just wait for your greencard to arrive in most these cases it’s an IR1. Unfortunately you can’t do anything preventative.
Welcome home! 🇺🇸
