DQ March 2023 Abu Dhabi Embassy
Interview date was December 10th,2024
At the time of interview everything went well and the officer took his passport and told him he should receive his visa within 1-2 weeks.
Yesterday Jan 15th his status updated to Refused and was told to pick up his passport. Along with his passport he received this 221g stating hes in AP. But were not sure why and for how long do you think he can be in AP for?

It vary case to case . You can follow up on ur status after 60 days and get the status update.

It's frustrating when you're told that everything looks good with a tentative approval, and then you go into AP later. It would be ideal that they could have just told you it's in AP once the interview ended so you didn't get expectations so high. I'm not sure what goes on on their end. Sometimes they know immediately once the interview is over that it's in AP, and then sometimes the embassy gets told later that you're in AP (as in this case). And then sometimes there are the super rare but weird cases but people get their visa approved and even printed on their passport, but then before they go to America for the first time to activate their visa into a green card, they suddenly have their visa revoked and get put into AP (which is why Rabea advises everyone to get the next available flight once you get your visa). In that last case, I find it so strange that someone out there is still running security checks on people who've had their visa approved where they can potentially still revoke it.. in either case, AP processing times can vary. I hope yours is one of the lucky ones that takes only some weeks/a month or two rather than multiple months or years. It's a frustrating process.

For my father it took 9 months just for a regular visit Visa.

There is no fixed time frame for AP. It can take a few weeks, a few months or even years (in rare cases)
