Understanding the IR1 visa and green card duration
My wife will board a US flight for IR1 visa category in twelve hours. Her visa says," Upon endorsement, it serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year."
Our marriage was in October 2022, and she is traveling In January 2025, hence, undoubtedly, we belong to IR1 category.
Is it not true that in IR1 cases, one gets a green card for ten years. Is this a typo or is it written by mistake because the year condition should be for CR1 category?
Is the two-year or a ten-year stamp actually the one stamped by the immigration office? Is she supposed to request to change this one-year duration to ten years?
Am I mixing two different concepts?

Muhammad Tahir Subhani It is similar to my wife's case. We got married in October 2022 and I submitted her case in the beginning of January 2023 along with as much evidence as I could provide them, which includes, joint bank account statement, wedding pictures and outings like dinner and family reunion etc, and I also specified all closed family members in the album/photos so they know who's in the pictures.
I have submitted sponsorship along with joint sponsor back in August 2024 and still there is no update for the Interview.

Muhammad Tahir Subhani DQ was July 31, 2024. What should be the expected date for the Interview at Islamabad Embassy, Pakistan?

Zeeshan Baig I don’t know but many members can definitely answer your question

Zeeshan Baig I did not ask for expedite processing. The case was filed in January 2023. Initially it was Islamabad, followed by case transferred to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates due to employment. We asked for case transferred to Riyadh recently, citing back log in Abu Dhabi consulate, and luckily we got approved. We used the one year multiple entry visa for Saudi Arabia as proof of residence, which we got in September 2024 for performing Umra.
I submitted as much evidence for a bonafide relationship as I could. For example, a letter from my human resource department confirming my wife as a beneficiary for my life insurance policy. I uploaded ten albums as PDF for all trips taken together or family reunion since marriage. I sent proof of sending money via Western Union.
It is difficult to gauge how much is too much, but the more you do in an organized manner helps convincing tje officers that you have a genuine relationship.
There is no way my wife and I could ever thank Miss Rabea Kruegel and this group’s members for their relentless help. But I will try
Thank Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Muhammad Tahir Subhani Just went thru this recently.Make sure your wife is carrying your marriage certificate from Pak. Once she lands, they will likely send her to secondary inspection to confirm where she wants her greencard sent. present the marriage certificate and let the officer know it shoud be a IR1 not CR1. They will update in their computer via a drop down and stamp the passport with IR1 along with hand write your marriage date. be sure to remind them, not doing this now can cause headaches in the future, nothing that cannot be resolved but do it right the first time...

Yes you are (to answer the last question 😁). As other have already correctly explained, she needs to pay attention at her port of entry that the immigration officer gives her an admission stamp. The stamp turns the visa sticker into her temporary greencard valid one year from date of the stamp, so she has immediate proof of status for work, DMV, banks and the like while she waits for the physical greencard. The permanent resident status itself is indicated by the IR category which is unconditional and will result in a 10 year greencard.

Your wife will definitely get a ten-year green card. Once she arrived, the immigration officer will stamp on her passport. That stamp/endorsement makes her immigrant visa a temporary green card valid for one year from the date of arrival in the U.S. You can use the visa as a green card until you receive the actual permanent resident card, typically in 90 days.

Hii, I see that you’re panicking.
So this stamp is when you enter the US. This is valid for a year and serves as a temporary green card incase your original green card doesn’t show up in time and you want to travel again outside and come back.
Once you get the green card and if it has been more than two years to your marriage, you will automatically get a 10 year valid green card

Debbie Wheeler-Anosike: Does this mean that this stamp alone serves as a green card for one year from entry into the US? Will the green card be ten years without an extension after two years? How do you make sure that the officer stamps the passport? What if she/he forgets to do so?

The 1 year is referring to the stamp endorsement. That 551 stamp is the temporary green card.
